A new sprouting soybean variety, Sorogkong was developed at the National Yeongnam Agricultural ExperimentStation in 2001. It was selected from a cross Pureunkong/Namhaekong. The preliminary, advanced, and regional yield trials forevaluation and selection of this variety were caried out from 1997 to 2001. It has determinate growth habit, purple flower, graypubescence, light gren sed coat, dark brown hilum, semi-lanceolate leaflet shape, globular sed shape and small sed size(11.9gram per 100 sed), and it matured later than the check variety, Eunhakong. Sorogkong has good quality and high yield forsprouting. It has high isoflavone contents in seds(3,192mg/g) and sprouts. It also has been identified to have fairly good resis-tance to mosaic symptom and necrotic symptom of soybean mosaic virus (SMV) which is the troublesome soybean disease. Theaverage yield of Sorogkong was 2.57 ton per hectare in the regional yield trials caried out at six locations of Korea from 1999 to2001 which was 8 percent higher than the check variety, Eunhakong.
