After the cold war, historians have anticipated 21st century will be the century of wars and clashes of civilizations. As we are entering the 21st century, this is turning out to be true as endless armed conflicts and wars between are breaking out in every parts of the world. Indonesia is also under a seriously troubled situations where most of its conflicts are fronted with religious symbols of christianity and Islam. However, can this be considered as a cultural clash of ethnics and religious groups? In hope to better understand what is at the bottom of these conflicts, I visited the Ambon in Maluku and Poso in Sulawesi each in 2003 and 2004, which the actual civil war regions between the christians and Muslims were taking place. two different ethnic group, and yet, the actual cause for such conflicts, whether it be economical, political, or both, has been formed through a long period of time During the colonial period, the two region's inhabitants suffered from discriminations, with their social status being determined by their religion or ethnicity. Especially after the liberation, with the near-end of the Soeharto regime, reverse discrimination of Muslims with Christians in every part of the society revealed to be a very serious problem. As such, the tragedies in Poso and Maluku can be seen as a part of a such bigger power game. In this sense, whether they are Muslims or christians, they not only are the ones actually involved in the current conflicts but also the actual victims of a huge political power game of the colonial and Java authorities.
