A Study on the style of Propaganda Film during the Japanese Colonial Period Moon Jae Cheol Assistant professor/Chung Ang University The purpose of this paper is to examine the style of propaganda Film made by Chosun Film Making Company, ‘Chosunyoungwhazooshikwheosa (朝鮮映畵株式會社)’ during the Japanese colonial period. Japanese Government controlled film production and distribution to agitate Chosun people. But these propaganda film were different from general propaganda films. These films show special characteristic style and feature, for example, they were based on genre form and focused on private relation. Above all emotion and affection is dominant element in these film. This emotion is full of female mood and lyricism, and various device and image were used to express this emotion. Especially local spectacle was prominent. <Chosunhaehyeop> directed by Paik Ki Chae is a typical film. This film is melodrama that focus on lonely emotion of a woman. As a result this film looks like a simple melodrama. Somebody may argue that these distinguishing marks are evidence of non-ideological. But we identify ideological practise in this feeling structure.
