There are two perspectives about the relationship between the masses and the Nazi dictatorship. The one is the totalitarian viewpoint which regards the German masses only as passive and atomized object of the successful mass manipulation of the terror regime. The other is the recent revisionism which focuses on the consensus from below. According to this, the ordinary Germans consequently became the conspirators of Nazi dictatorship. This paper attempts to overcome such partial perspectives. For this purpose, it analyzed the dreams which reveals the attitudes of German ordinary people toward the Nazi hegemony offensive. Especially, I have focused on the dreams of potential dissenters who were never openly ‘yes men’ of the Nazism. The results of the research are as follows: 1. As their efforts of dreaming and remembering dreams show, the masses of Nazi Germany were a free-will subject who was able to determine and act by himself, maintaining social- and political identity. In this sense, the totalitarianism is only half the truth. 2. Because the coercion and consent building in Nazi Germany were complicatedly related with each other, the psychological reactions of German Masses toward the Nazi hegemony offensive were also complicated. There were various types of psychological reactions: Confronted by terror and coercion, someone was deprived of the will to resist against the Nazi dictatorship and submitted and conformed to it. But another voluntarily accepted the Nazi rule. In this case, there were also various spectrums. Someone was ideologically assimilated into the Nazi coercion itself; while someone became gradually confirmed to it, experiencing the inner conflict and the diffusion of identity between insidious terror and seduction of the Nazis, another changed his previous attitude and consequently consent to it without any inner conflict; furthermore, becoming spontaneous and even enthusiastic supporter of Hitler in his dreams, someone expected that the Nazi regime would realize his desire.
