The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationships among college students’ academic stress, grades, physical symptoms, and satisfaction with major. Bootstrapping was utilized to examine the mediating effect of physical symptoms in the relationships. The findings of the study are as follows. First, as to the relationships between academic stress and grades, pressure for good grades and psychological stress were the two factors that significantly affected grades. Pressure for good grades and psychological stress were shown to be greater with lower grades. The results imply that although interpersonal relationship stress did not have a significant effect on grades, achieving good grades requires intensive effort to study, often neglecting efforts for good interpersonal relationships. Based on the results it is recommended that universities develop and support programs for outstanding students to help relieve them of interpersonal relationship stress. Second, the results of bootstrapping in SPSS Macro, revealed the mediating effect of physical symptoms in the relationship between academic stress and satisfaction with major. More specifically, the effect of interpersonal relationship stress and psychological stress on satisfaction with major was significantly mediated by physical symptoms. The results indicate that a high level of interpersonal and psychological stress from university life induces physical symptoms, which decrease the level of satisfaction with major.
