This research analyzes the semantic and syntactical properties of multisyllabic words X着, including 着 (zhe), and proposes the creation of the X着 system based on the results of the analysis. The Modern Chinese Language Grammar Information Dictionary includes 27 X着 words analyzed in this research. First, the 27 words have different parts of speech and inherent semantic properties. The concrete contents are as follows. The verb X着 has the semantic properties of “concretion,” and the adverb X着 has the semantic properties of “continuance.” The preposition X着 has the semantic properties of “fixed properties,” and the pronoun X着 word has the semantic properties of “motional” or “situational description.” The particle X着 has the semantic properties of “past.” In other words, X着 has the same type but different parts of speech and semantic properties. Next, regarding the syntactical properties, a detailed classification system is based on the similarity of grammatical properties, targeting the preposition X着 and the verb X着, which accounts for the largest proportion. As a result, the verb was classified into two types, and the preposition into four types. Finally, the relation between the grammaticalization of the aspect particle 着 and the multisyllabic word X着 are analyzed. Based on a semantic and syntactical analysis, the word X着 is a natural byproduct of each stage of the grammaticalization of the aspect particle 着, driven by the fossilization phenomenon. That is, these were created differently during the grammaticalization of 着 and so have different semantic and syntactical characteristics.
