This paper aims at researching testimonial play, Big Head by Denise Uyehara who has performed political issues including race, gender, and sexuality. Uyehara deconstructs the limits of written text and employs diverse technological objects on the stage of Big Head. She deals with conflicts of multicultural values and the backlash reflecting the disastrous ‘fact’ of 9/11 in view of her subjective memory and personal history. Uyehara conveys fragmentary memories and trauma in her personal and family history, sends them out to the public sphere, and expands them to ethnic trauma negotiating the formation of a new identity. Through the performance, Uyehara diagnoses ethical and political crisis in America by exposing diverse terrains of trauma after 9/11. She employs the stage to share the experience of the audience from multicultural background and hopes it is the place of hope for the better world recovering from the trauma of catastrophe.
