Kashiwagi-Gien is one of the few Christians who declared against war under the imperialism in modern Japan, and is known as the person who criticized Korean missions of Japanese Congregational Church in the country. Through previous studies, Kashiwagi was not the person who belonged to the leading faction of the Japanese Christianity at the time, but he carred out sharp criticism of the war and argued for Pacifism during a whole lifetime. Also it was possible to confirm the meaning and limitations in his recognition of Joseon, and the logic that criticized Korean missions of Japanese Congregational Church colluded with the power of the state. However, it can be said that his Christian faith and thought as the premise of this act of Kashiwagi were not fully revealed. This article focuses on Kashiwagi’s faith and practice as a pastor of a rural church, which has been deeply rooted in the region, and examined his religious beliefs, religious activities, and behavior closely. Through this study, it was able to identify that Kashiwagi practiced in the society of an act as a Christian by the faith in his lifetime, and that it was based on faith by his original thought.
