This study was to evaluate male and female subjects' psychophysiological differences, including some physiological measures, such as galvanic skin response(GSR) and skin temperature(SKT), and emotional measures on two dimensions of pleasure and tension in terms of driving speed and mode changes using a simple vehicle simulator. Each 36 male and female college students(mean age = 24 yrs. sd=5 yrs.) participated in two experiments. In experiment 1, subjects were given to three different speed conditions(30, 90, and 120 km/h). In experiment 2, separate subjects were exposed to two different mode conditions(the sudden-start speed and the sudden-stop speed). The results showed that psychophysiological changes were significantly different in gender and the driving conditions. Particularly, the results suggest that physiological measures, such as GSR and SKT, and emotional measures would be sensitive measures to differentiate the difference between male and female subjects' responses in the high speed and emergent driving situations.
