Before the actual evaluation of the Korean translations of Le Phare des sanguinaires, which corresponds practically to the phase of analysis, we will start by performing a preliminary inquiry, which shall consist of the introduction of the original text, a survey of the existing translations and of the available bibliography, etc. Then, we will apply the evaluation criteria established by the ‘Research Team for the Evaluation of Korean Translations of French Great Novels’ to the Korean translations at a fundamental level and at a deeper level. The evaluation at the fundamental level is based on 1) the analysis of error types 2) the analysis of error tendencies. At the stage of error types’ analysis, we will provide examples representative of each determined category of the translations’ evaluation system. The analysis of error tendencies uses the results of the error types’ analysis presented through a chart to identify what errors are more often found in each translation. At the stage of the deeper evaluation, we will apply criteria different from those of the fundamental evaluation to identify the characteristics of each translation. Finally, we will come to a complete evaluation which shall allow us to bring out the most commendable translations of Le Phare des sanguinaires on the basis of what was revealed through the preliminary examination, the fundamental evaluation and the deeper evaluation.
