This study aims to examine the effect of 4MAT model-applied inquiry class on pre-service elementary school teachers’ self-efficacy of biology and perception of class. Thus, this study selected 13 inquiry topics and had 30 education university freshmen teach class with the topics for about 3 months. The research results can be summarized as below. Firstly, as a result of testing their self-efficacy of biology, this study found out that they improved themselves in all the three domains, their confidence in preparing biology experiment reports, confidence in analyzing biology lectures and inquiry data, and application of biological concepts and skills after teaching inquiry class with the 4MAT model applied. The results implies that by class activities systematically through the 4MAT teaching method based on a constructive learning approach, every pre-service elementary school teacher was given a chance of inquiry fit for their own learning styles. Secondly, in open questions about their perception of inquiry class with the 4MAT model applied, many of the pre-service elementary school teachers used certain vocabulary such as ‘experiment’, ‘experience’, ‘various’, ‘the microscope’, ‘had’ and ‘confidence’. Therefore, this study could interpret this tendency that 4MAT model-applied inquiry class helped each pre-service teacher have more confidence by providing various experiences through microscope-used experiments. Moreover, as they used the word, ‘appropriate’, most beside the words above, this study found out that class activities fit for them aroused their interest in class more and helped them understand biological concepts better.
