We developed an educational program composed of three units which enable students to learn the system of biological classification, to experience the scientists’ activities, and thereby to understand the nature of science. The first unit includes the activities of connecting the reasoning-cards to evidence-cards regarding the classification system. Students are divided into several groups from the second unit. Students classify the given organisms according to each classification system, and then discuss the differently assigned organisms in each group. Every group attaches the given pictures of organisms to whole paper. The pictures differently assigned by each student should be placed to the area of ‘subject of controversy’. At the third unit, students present the whole paper and share the subject of controversy discussed in the group. Additionally, they announce their opinions on the question about the nature of science that teacher handed out. Finally, the teacher presents the history of biological classification and its standard, and explains that the scientific knowledge is not fixed but susceptible to advancement of the science. In the preliminary application, we observed that the program made the philosophical viewpoint of students changed from a traditional to a modern view.
