The purpose of this study was to identify salespersons' emotional intelligence on sales performance and job satisfaction in the hotel industry. Based on gender difference in previous emotion studies, this study examined the difference of emotional intelligence by gender, and its effect on sales performance and job satisfaction. Data were collected from salespersons in sales & marketing department of 22 hotels in Korea from March 2 to 15, 2015, and finally 257 questionaires were analyzed. The five dimensions of emotional intelligence were identified; self emotional appraisal, others’ emotional appraisal, regulation of emotion, and use of emotion. The result of t-test and regression revealed as follows; First, emotional intelligence of male staff was higher than that of female staff. Second, self emotional appraisal, others’ emotional appraisal, regulation of emotion, and use of emotion affected on sales performance in male group, while only self emotional appraisal affected on sales performance in female group. Third, others’ emotional appraisal affected on job satisfaction in male group, while self emotional appraisal affected on job satisfaction in female group. Fourth, others’ emotional appraisal affected on job satisfaction in male group, but emotional intelligence did not affect on job satisfaction in female group. Fifth, job satisfaction affected on sales performance in male group, while job satisfaction did not affect on sales performance in female group. Based on the findings, implications for human resource management in hotel personal selling were discussed.
