Hendrikus Berkhof suggested the possibility and importance of the Spirit Christology strongly. This thesis examined intensively how Berkhof understood the Spirit and explained the relation between the Spirit and Christ. Also discussed is in what respect of the Spirit Christology he meditates can contribute to the development of Christology and what is the problem of his Spirit Christology. The researcher noticed that Berkhof’s Spirit Christology presents the third position differentiated from the Spirit-Incarnation Christology of the antient church Fathers and the Spirit-Inspiration Christology of G. W. H. Lampe. Berkhof elucidated who Christ is and what Christ does, in God’s creation and the order of salvation, relating it to the Spirit of God. He corrected the limitation of the Spirit Christology of the Fathers who tried to prove the divinity of Christ centering around the philosophical concept of God. As a result, his Spirit Christology widened the range of Christology. Berkhof tried to correct the Spirit Christology of liberal theologians who tended to see Jesus a man who was just superior, showed special power through God’s Spirit and obeyed to God. In that respect, he tried to preserved the depth of Christology in his Spirit Christology It was a creative attempt that Berkhof tried to cope with the schematic u n d e r-standing of the divine nature and the human nature of Jesus Christ through a new understanding of the Spirit. However, Berkhof’s interpretation of the Trinity brings about a pro-blem. He turned the God of Trinity into the story of one God who works in the Spirit. For him the Spirit is the name for God in action toward the world. His Spirit Christology turned out to be a theory that explains the relation between the Spirit of God with Jesus Christ. The Spirit Christology of Hendrikus Berkhof left us a task to solve regardless of lots of merits.
