This paper investigates the beliefs of novice lecturers of English in anEnglish Teacher Education Faculty in Vietnam, aiming to highlight thegaps and expectation of newly recruited lecturers. Towards that aim, datawere collected via questionnaires delivered to 25 teachers, and interviewsof 6 volunteer lecturers to have more in-depth information regardingtheir beliefs about how to meet the expectation of their own, faculty anduniversity in terms of effective teaching and learning English in anever-changing Vietnam. The findings of this study suggest that thenovice lecturers be strengthened with solid language proficiency togetherwith new teaching skills to adapt themselves in a technology-orientedteaching environment. This expects to broaden the administrators’ andFaculty leaders’ views in terms of professional development through avariety of measures to assist novice lecturers in the beginning years oftheir career.
