The 'Green Growth' plan is taking concrete shape as days go by since President Lee Myung-bak first floated the idea of ‘Low-carbon, Green Growth' as a new paradigm for the future in his Liberation Day address. The Lee's government declared 'sustainable development', the term appeared as the result of converted attitude toward environment and increased fear of global climate change, basic principle and ultimate goal of 'Green Growth' plan. A systemic transition, changing high energy-consuming economy into low-carbon and clean-energy one and integrating environmental values and concerns with economic ones, is required to reach the goal of sustainable development. However, considering inclination toward economic interest of environmental industry with less concern about measures for environmental improvement, the 'Green Growth' plan is open to doubt whether it is nothing but the euphemism of a growth-centric strategy. In addition, it failed to grasp the paradoxical nature and provide effective measures for the integration of 'green' and 'growth'. In spite of various deficits and worries, the 'window of opportunity' opened up by 'Green Growth' plan will provides of great chance for exploring the possibilities of sustainable society.
