The Beethoven 9th Symphony concerts take place throughout Japan during the month of December which is called in Japan “Daiku”. Why the Ninth, a notoriously difficult work that the members have to sing in German? It seems impossible for amateurs to sing, but they are urged to try harder and the feeling of accomplishment seems sublime. It represents the possibility of coming together in a common destiny. This article introduces on the in Korea almost unknown Japanese Phenomenon “Daiku” and will analyse it from the critical point of view with the questions: when it might begin, why December and Daiku were combined as a pair, why Japanese were encouraged not with the own traditional music but with Beethoven’s music. Finally, the phenomenon after the Fukushima disaster of 2011 will be described with a fake story of the ‘Japanese Beethoven’ Samuragouichi Mamoru in order to show how the image of Beethoven could be easily used to blind the victims of the March 2011.
