Lawrence’s nature worship or Pan worship can be traced from his earliest work to the last. In connection with that characteristic Lawrence’s 1927 painting “Red Willow Trees” can been evaluated. While the painting had not long received enough attention from critics, such as Harry T. Moore, Jack Lindsay, Herbert Read, Robert W. Millett, and Jack Stewart, Keith Sagar, however, very recently and for the first time focused on the composition of the painting, especially indicating that the boughs seem to stick out of the man’s head. This paper has clarified the unique feature of the man’s head by relating it with a Green Man image, which is shown as a man’s head which is covered with tree leaves or out of which a branch or bough sticks. The Green Man image in Lawrence’s painting is also in accordance with his Pan worship in his literary works. His Pan worship can be seen in the 1928 painting “Dance Sketch,” too. Besides, “Red Willow Trees” as well as “Dance Sketch” depicts a paradisiacal state which corresponds to the dancing scene of Connie, Mellors and his dog Flossie in the 1928 novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover.
