Reality changes in a way or another when it is transformed into a linguistic entity. A writer re-constructs the world, through language, in his own way. Many elements take part in the ‘way’ to create a new structure that is not found in the real world. The temporal aspect is one of the ‘ways’, and this study aims at the analysis of the temporal structure as shown in Muhammad Farid Abu Hadid’s historical novels, especially in <The Agony of Juha>. To reach the goal the paper examined the narrative text from three time-related angles; order, duration and frequency. <The Agony of Juha> has a different kind of temporal structure from the other historical fictions of Abu Hadid. The meaningful differences come mainly from the order of narrated events. The most striking feature is the irregularity of the distance between story-time and text-time. It is obvious that the point of view of the experiencing self and that of narrating self is so complicatedly mingled in the narrative that the reader can not distinguish easily between the two. However, it seems that the novel was narrated through nine times. The paper also pointed out that it is like a letter regarding the temporal distance, and it does not have as many cases of prolepsis as commonly expected in the third person narratives.
