This study is conducted to verify unique locomotion ability of children with mental retardation in a movement therapy program. The movement therapy program was constructed by various music tempos. Samples of this study were 3 children with educable mental retardation(EMR) and 2 children with trainable mental retardation(TMR). The samples were asked to demonstrate their movement profiles in a circumstance of various music tempos such as slow, quick, and slow-quick combination. Movement profiles such as sagittal movement, horizontal movement, or vertical movement were measured in each program segment. Results of this study are as follows:Firstly, locomotion ability of EMR is higher than locomotion ability of TMR, but the program effectiveness, as like increasing rate, is higher for TMR to compare the program effectiveness of EMR.Secondly, EMR samples in a slow music class demonstrate every motions with sagittal, horizontal, and vertical actions. However, TMR samples tend to do not demonstrate sagittal movement.Thirdly, TMR samples did not demonstrate vertical and horizontal movements in the classes with quick tempo musics. TMR samples's movements with sagittal actions were dominant.Forth, TMR samples demonstrate vertical and horizontal motions in the classes with slow-quick combination tempo musics.
