The purpose of this study was to investigate mothers’ beliefs on early English education. Specifically, to examine Korean mothers’ enthusiastic attitudes toward early English education, the study describes and characterizes their subjective beliefs on their preschool- or kindergarten-aged children’s English education. To measure subjectivity, Q-methodology was employed and 15 mothers participated in the study. A set of fifty Q-items for examining mothers’ beliefs concerning early English education was developed by the researcher and written Q-items on cards were sorted by the participants. Responses were categorized according to mothers’ beliefs by factor analysis. Based on the results, they were clustered into three groups; (1) Early-exposure-oriented beliefs, (2) Achievement-oriented beliefs, and (3) Facilitative-learning-oriented beliefs.
