Recently, low-cost carriers have been witnessed in Korea airline industry. They not only have obtained high performance, but also threatened the position of traditional airlines. In this paper, the case research on Southwest Airlines-an outstanding low-cost carrier-has been carried out in order to uncover driving factors of sustainable high performance. The followings are research findings. Firstly, strategic alignment between business strategies and business activities are important. Secondly, there should be operational effectiveness among business activities. Third, mutual enforcement among business activities are conclusive in creating and sustaining high performance. With these findings, the importance of organizational resources and competences are emphasized in low-cost carrier business. Also, strategic implications for Korean low-cost carriers have been suggested.
