Church renewal comes from the renewal of pastors’ ability to interpret the Bible. It comes from the renewal of theological education in the seminary. Despite many diagnostics on theological education, the renewal of theologians themselves is urgent rather than changing the curriculum or how to manage it. I suggest three things. First, theological education must make a pastor as a theologian who is able to criticize oneself on a maximum level. Along with it, an interpreter must have a keen consciousness of social location which always orients to reform the church. Second, an interpreter must has a critical awareness that biblical interpretation makes an interpreter invincible and thus that it is a very dangerous job. Third, an interpreter must accumulate personal experiences on the sacred authority of the Bible, especially one that the Bible interprets the interpreter himself/herself rather than others. As an illustration, a case of Robert B. Coote’s interpreting the book of Amos with a redaction criticism is provided.
