This research analyzes the features and weaving techniques of the pattern silk stored in the wooden seated statue of Amitabha in the main sanctuary of Suguksa temple. In the statue, twenty-two patterned silk textiles and three pattern systems were found: damask, gauze and weave with supplementary weft. One tabby damask uses tabby as a ground and weft float for its pattern. The twelve satin damasks consist of seven different types. All the satin damasks took 5-end satin. A weft yarn made from two threads is used, but starch weft yarns are also shown. Two different kinds of seven Munsa utilized a weaving technique of taking 2-end simple gauze as a ground and a plain weave for its pattern. Four gold (silver) woven silks have also been found. They consist of two satin grounds (Jikgeumdan) and one complex gauze ground (Jikgeumra). For Jikgeumra, gold warps are bound with every fixed warp in a 4-end twill on the front side, and on the reverse side, they are floated. Lastly, three cloud pattern Hwara (complex gauze with supplementary silk thread) have also been discovered. Their supplementary wefts are bound with every fixed warp in a 4-end irregular twill on the front side. On the reverse side, the supplementary wefts are bound with every crossing warp in twill. In conclusion, based on these weave structures and patterns, the relics are presumed to have been enshrined in 1562.
