The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty is the collection of 28 chronicles of 25 kings throughout 472 years of the Joseon Dynasty. It was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage for its value in 1997. It not only records the government affairs but the lives of citizens as well. It is an important historical record in studying the history and culture of the Joseon Dynasty. The original is registered as a national treasure and cannot be seen by everyone. It was replicated by the museum that holds the artifacts then it was displayed and became open to access.
This study analyzed the fabric used to replicate the 45 books including 44 books of the Seongjong Sillok and one book of the Joongjong Sillok. The covers of the book were all woven with blue tabby in plain weave. The density of the warp was between 15 to 25 threads and for the weft it was between 16-29 threads. The diameter was from 0.12~0.40mm. White tabby was used for the title. The density of the warp was 20~24 threads and 15~25 for the weft and the diameter of the threads were 0.10~0.35mm. A Samseon, cord braided with 3 threads, was used to bind the book together.
Taking the characteristics and the form of the cover fabric, it can be concluded that 11~13 sae silk woven in traditional method is suitable for replicating the books.
