This study thoroughly researched and analyzed types of textiles and their weaving features from a Wooden Bodhisattava Statue built in 1502 enshrined at GwanEumSa temple. The enshrined objects have been wrapped in Korean traditional paper, HanJi. Among them, textiles have been found from six papers. On the face of papers, respective object names were written with calligraphy such as ‘DongBang(East)’, ‘JoongBang(Center)’, ‘HongBack’, ‘OhSaekBack’, ‘SuCheongBiDan’, ‘HwangMokMyun’. There are forty-seven textiles in total from the Statue and all of them are fractions. Among them, eight flags[buns] with four legs have related to the BulBokJang ceremony. The textiles have two weave structures: Tabby and Satin. Among the plain weaves, there are twenty-eight silks, four hemps and four ramies, seven blended tabbies. Blended tabby which is woven from silk warp and ramie weft is important because such kind of textile is rarely found from Joseon Dynasty. Satin textiles consist of one non-pattern satin and six satin damasks. Satin damasks’ weave structure is 5-end satin. Starched weft has been found from one non-pattern satin and one satin damask. Such reflections are often found from satin and Silver woven silk within enshrined textiles of late Goryeo Dynasty and early Joseon Dynasty. A book titled ‘NoGeolDae’ showed records of starched satin and Gold woven satin had been circulated at that time. The book described such textiles as low-quality textiles. Unstarched good quality textiles had been called ‘CheongSuDanJa’ or ‘CheongSuJikGeumYoongDanJa’. This also shows the importance of the relics from GwanEumSa temple, because a name of ‘SuCheongBiDan’ written on paper was first discovered and it acts as a vivid proof of the record that ‘CheongSuBiDan’ from the book. In this regard, BulBokJang textiles from GwanEumSa temple have a great value that show trends and features of the Early Joseon Dynasty(15th~16th Century).
