Yeonam Park Ji-won was an intellectual of the 18th century Joseon dynasty who explored learning with an open attitude and searched for a direction of a new life with his progressive and adventurous disposition enduring uncertainty in the turbulent era of change. Also, he did not stop at asking the ultimate question of “what is `humanity?”, instead further presenting the problem of social norms that defined human beings by innate identities. At the crossroads of innovative change in uncertain times, Yeonam looked for new directions of life by exploring various possibilities at the center of both extremes rather than leaning toward one side or the o ther. The insight of “The Between” based on the mind, which is the core idea of Yeonam, is an original way of thinking which accepts world change subjectively while maintaining an open attitude. This is the practice of establishing a relationship that enhances the possibility of emotional and cognitive sharing by focusing on the “intercourse” of the other, acting as a major belief system in forming human relationships. Above all, Yeonam thought that change is a moment in need of insight into the present and the future. The new educational vision and future-oriented educational transition is not merely a formal introduction of an advanced system and policy making. Yeonam, who lived in a period of dynamic paradigm change maintained that the unpredictable future is not to be avoided but rather approached proactively. The educational review of Yeonam’s thought is based on the transformation of the education paradigm according to the revolutionary change of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Today, as the foundation of the learning society based on knowledge sharing, it presents the importance and direction of education.
