This study examines the literary works in which a male author projected a female narrator to speak for his feelings. The scope pf these literary works covers for longing that falls out of favor with a sudden change of mind, but also sighing and resentment coming in a situation that cannot be achieved in the present life from earnest desire for a reunion, and resignation for taking such situations as a fate. The literary works also take after the precedent works of authors who had to leave the royal court due to exile or demotion and expressed their resentment by emphasizing their loyalty. In regard to the manner of developing contents, the literary works are composed of ‘Favor of King-King’s Change of Mind-Resignation and Sigh/Desire for Reunion-Embodiment’.
『Manbunga』 is a poem written by Jo Wi(曺偉, 1454∼1503) and it is the first literary work to reflect above elements in the Korean poetry. Jo Wi was an author gifted with poetic and literary talents and he was in charge of the national compilation works. When he was exiled after Muosahwa (Literati Purge in 1498), he expressed his feelings in a complex way by accommodating female narrator reflection method, literary emotion of authors such as Jeongseo of Goryeo Dynasty and Qu Yuan from China, and by embracing contents and development from literary experiences of ‘Yue-Fu Poems(Poetry of Sino)’ such as 『ChupBakMyeong(妾薄命)』 and 『Yusosa(有所思)』.
『Manbunga』 accommodates female narrator’s reflection method used in Goryeo Jeongseo’s 『JeongGwaJeong (鄭瓜亭)』 which was evaluated as the example of the loyalist’s love-song for the king during the King Seongjong times in the Joseon Dynasty and Qu Yuan’s 『Li-Sao(離騷)』 and 『Jiuzhang(九章)』. When Qu Yuan was exiled from the royal court, he got literary inspiration from folk shamanism scene where a female shaman took the place of a man. Such inspiration was reflected in his work 『Jiu Ge (九歌)』 and the female narrator reflection method was later used again in 『Li-Sao(離騷)』 and 『Jiuzhang(九章)』 .
The emotions expressed in Manbunga accommodate the emotion of authors among the literati who receded from the political line due to exile or demotion leaving successful precedents. The contents and development method adopt 『ChupBakMyeong(妾薄命)』 which attributes the depart with the king to own ill-fated life and Yusosa(有所思) which is developed in the process of ‘Favor of King-Change of Mind-Resignation and Sigh/Desire for Reunion-Embodiment’. As 『ChupBakMyeong(妾薄命)』 by Lee Gok in Goryeo, Nam Hyo-On, and Seonghyeon in the early of Joeseon Dynasty and 『Yusosa(有所思) by Lee Chhum, Osu, Lee Jeong, and Seonghyeon shortly reflect the female narrator, Jo Wi’s Manbunga could adopt the female narrator reflection method.
The various expression methods of 『Manbunga are adopted in various creative works. In『 Samiingok』, Jeong Cheol(鄭澈, 1536∼1593) who left the loyal court and withdrew to Suncheon expressed his longing for the king throughout the year by comparing his own situation to a female [fairy] who came down to the world from Kwanghanjeon. Also, the author of 『Sokmiingok』 expressed his own feeling by using the conversation between the two female narrators. In addition, Cho Woo-In(曺友仁, 1561∼1625) who wrote『 Jadosa(自悼詞)』 was imprisoned after ‘Pilhwa Incident (Literary Persecution) and he expressed his feeling by comparing himself to a female [fairy] who was abandoned by the [King of Heaven].
