In this study Koshien tournament in the Japanese colonial era is considered carefully. With the way of literature review the history of Koshien tournament participating, the transition of the middle school baseball game, and the educational regulations affecting the middle school baseball culture were examined. The following conclusions were drawn from the above considerations. First, the Young Men`s Christian Association (YMCA) made a great contribution to the introduction and development of Korean baseball. Though, participating the second Koshien tourament in 1916 as a member of Chosun national team was failed due to the discrimination policy of Japan. Second, Whimun High School was the only Korean team ever to participate in the Koshien Championship as a pure Korean team. Third, the 1932 baseball control bill played a role in thwarting the nationalistic will of the baseball tournament hosted by Chosun at the same time, increasing the popularity of the Japanese-sponsored Koshien Chosun qualifiers. Fourth, Japanese imperialism distorted the sports culture of Chosun by using education, sports culture and baseball programs as a means of discrimination and assimilation policies revising and promulgating educational laws such as the Joseon Education Decree and the Private School Decree. The lesson of participating in the Koshien Festival during the Japanese colonial period is to suggest preserving the pure meaning of sports together with the creation of physical education and sports environment that can lead to universal value of our physical culture.
