This study based its methodology on interview and survey, and examined business characteristics and entrepreneurship of the Korean companies that entered the Indonesian market in 2016. The main implications of this study are as follows:
First, it was found that Korean companies in Indonesia made an investment by observing future market potential, and there was the shift of the early manufacturing industry to the service industry.
Second, it was found that as a mid-to-long-term countermeasure for the rise of labor costs was to improve capability by introducing automation equipment; as for the future localization strategies were to develop new products based on the local consumer demand surveys, and also what Korean companies currently need were price competitiveness and professional manpower.
Third, looking at the entrepreneurial spirit of Korean companies in Indonesia, a sense of challenge and social networking were required in the environment of manufacturing -oriented enterprises in the early period. However, it was found that currently due to the increase in service industries such as distribution and knowledge services, the entrepreneurial spirit such as goal-oriented achievement desire and achievement desire by innovative activities were required.
Fourth, as this study analyzed business characteristics and entrepreneurial spirit of Korean companies in Indonesia through the questionnaires and interviews, it is expected to be a useful source for Korean small and medium enterprises in Indonesia as well as for the government in the formulation of new Southern policy, youth employment and start-ups in the future.
