The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acute treadmill exercise and music rope jumping exercise on BDNF, lactic acid and cognitive function. Seven male college students participated in an acute treadmill exercise (TE) and a music rope jumping exercise (ME). Both exercises’ intensities were controlled by HRmax 60 ~ 70%. There was no significant difference in BDNF level between the groups. In the music rope jumping group, both BDNF levels increased significantly before, at 30 minutes after exercise (p<.05) and 60 minutes after exercise (p<.01). There was a significant difference in the lactic acid concentration level (p<.01) between the groups. In the acute treadmill exercise group, there was a significant increase in the lactic acid concentration levels of the participants between preexercise and 30 minutes post-exercise (p<.05). However, in the music rope jumping group, there was a significant increase in the concentration levels not only between pre-exercise and 30 minutes post-exercise (p<.01), but at 60 minutes post-exercise (p<.01) as well. There was no significant difference in the level of cognitive function between the groups. However, the score of cognitive function test in both groups increased significantly post-exercise (P<.001). In this study, there was no significant difference in BDNF change and cognitive function change between the acute treadmill exercise and the music rope jumping exercise, but it was found that there was a significant difference in lactate concentration change between two exercises. The results of the preceeding study show a significant increase in both the BDNF level and the lactic acid concentration level of the participants when doing the music rope jumping exercise. However, the same cannot be said for the acute treadmill exercise, which caused a different increase in lactic acid concentration levels. Due to the relationship between BDNF levels and lactic acid concentration in the body, there may a difference in the findings if the exercises are executed as a long-term program. Thus, a more long-term study is required for clearer results.
