The purpose of this thesis is to seek a truth in theological approach rather than empiricism, on the title “Sermon as the ministry to announce the Presence of Jesus Christ,” centered on Homiletics by R. Bohren. The three types of Bohren’s sermons are expanded here and based on and started from the fact that Jesus Christ exists, according to time division: Past - Sermon as remembrance of death and His resurrection, Future - Sermon as the promise of His Second Coming, Present - Sermon of His Presence, in other words, Sermon as the Ministry of announcement of the Presence of Jesus Christ. All these types are eventually aimed at present existence of Jesus Christ.
The sermon as the ministry to announce the miracle of His present existence to the public coincides with the sermon as the ministry of God’s name talk. According to Bohren, in the sermon on His presence, we express Him concretely that He is with us, and in His name, we interpret Him and clarify the presence of His character. In contrast, testimonies of the presence of Jesus Christ are demonstrated by the presence of His character, that is, He is alive and living in our midst.
Therefore, author presents here the theological basis of “The Sermon as the Ministry to announce the Presence of Jesus Christ,” and following after that, linguistic molding or issue of shaping of such sermon is dealt with. There are various ways of expressing the Presence of Jesus Christ. Bohren mentions 4 examples.: Presence as the One enthroned at the right hand of the Father, Presence as the One lowered among the poor, Presence as Jesus Christ in His church, Presence of Jesus Christ as the intercessor of creation in the nature. What must be deeply impressed in our hearts is the fact that all sermons without the personal Presence of Jesus Christ will be powerless.
