This study is about the life history of victims abducted to North Korea during the Korean war and an in-depth analysis of the actual state of damage of the abductees and their families. It is to investigate the truth about an on going state violence and social discrimination in the socio-historical perspective. Due to the special circumstances of a divided nation, an ideology was created to have the families of abductees at the bottom of society.
Abductees and their families were first abused by North Korea, and secondly abused by anti-communism discourse in South Korea. Families of the abductees lost their beloved ones by North Korea and had been kept under guard by South Korea. Through their life history, this study attempts to examine the truth of lives abused violently by the nation and the forms of the damages occurred. Until now, families of abductees suffered various forms of restrictions and damages such as being excluded from society.
Families of the abductees were often misunderstood as families of those who voluntarily defected to North Korea. With this misconception, families of the abductees were monitored and punished in all areas of political, economical, social, and cultural life. Although the war ended, there was no place where the families of the abductees could express their longing for their lost ones due to the existing social views.
The lives of the families of abductees had to suffer are filled with great remorse. Decades of silence led to deep resentment and regret which became a life long sickness. Nevertheless, the elderly families of the abductees continued to wait for their relatives who were taken to North Korea 67 years ago, and desperately wanted the nation to remember the pain and sorrow of the separation caused by the 6.25 Korean War.
