This Study is intended to examine the contents of the national Sacrificial rites in Lee Hyun-il and Lee Hyun-il’s “HongBumYeonUi (洪範衍義)”(1688), which commented on the ‘Hong Bum’ of the “SeoKyung (書經)”. “HongBumYeonUi” was written to reveal the political ideas of the ancient Chinese Qing Dynasty, and there are a fair amount about the national rituals.
The sacrifice described in “HongBumYeonUi” is Hocheon Sangje (昊天上帝) and Oze (五帝), which are heavenly sacrifices by Emperor. And there were Gigi (地祇) Sajik (사직) and Myeongsan Daecheon (명산대천), Oak (오악), and Sadok (사독). All of these sacrifices were the subjects that raised the authority of the Emperor and the rest of them could never offer sacrifices. Those who became ghosts as human beings emphasized the Jongmyo (宗廟) and Munmyo (文廟). In particular, the fact that the form of the old Jongmyo, which was performed in the Qing Dynasty, was different from the present one, was explained in detail according to the theory of Juhee (朱熹).
The national ceremony of “HongBumYeonUi” came to our country and changed considerably. In the Goryeo Dynasty, there were many similarities to the contents of “HongBumYeonUi” because it was an a son of Heaven-nation, but Joseon Dynasty was very different because it showed the position of the feudal lords.
In particular, the Jaigae (齋戒) of the sacrifice was reduced from 10 days to 7 days, And there was no scene of the king cutting the sacrifice with a knife, no dancing by the king himself, no role for the woman in the ceremony, and no mention of the Sidong (尸童).
