This study reports on the consequences of epidemic on the tourism industry in Korea. Recently various types of epidemic broke out all over the world and affected many industries. Especially it is an incredibly sensitive issue for tourism industry. Therefore this study is focused on finding out how the epidemic affects the tourism industry and suggesting the desirable coping way. To achieve this purpose we analyzed the impact of epidemic on the tourism industry in two ways. One is a short-term impact and the other is a long-term impact. We chose the swine flue to analyze and used the increasing rate of foreign tourists, the increasing rate of tourism income, the increasing rate of average expenses per foreign tourist, the increasing rate of expenses type as a variable measuring a short term impact. As the result of analysis, the swine flue affected all variables. And we also analyzed the management differences of tourism businesses before and after the epidemic. It was discovered that there were the significant differences in the total sales, the number of businesses, the number of visitors and the number of employment before and after the swine flue. So the government and tourism organization should cooperate to shut out the epidemic quickly and minimize the damage. And also they should try to attract the foreign tourists by developing the new tourism products.
