Sustainable tourism is the application of sustainable development concept into travel and tourism. Sustainable tourism can be interpreted from a sectorial point of view according to which the basic goal is the viability of tourist activity, more in the line of economic sustainability of tourism. As the focus of concern is tourist activity, the emphasis of such a strategy would imply strengthening, upgrading and even differentiation of the tourist product, often relying on organizational and technological solutions and innovations. The need for ecologically sustainable tourism is strongly emphasized. Results of this study are summarized as follows. 1) DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) area should be designated as a green belt by cooperation of South- and North- Korea and preserved as untouched natural forestry. 2) as a part of sustainable tourism development, wildlife and wild flowers viewing programs should be developed. 3) the most important military bases during the Korean War, such as Iron Triangle, Baekma-goji, and Ridge Battle, still echo the roar of the soldiers. Accordingly, there is a need to develop tourism products including vestiges of the Korean War and regional culture. 4) this area is needed to be developed as an eco-tourism destination for natural scenery appreciation, mountain climbing, and ecological study. 5) the hot spa in a Chorwon Tourist Hotel should be developed as a tourist product. 6) the life of agricultural country and agricultural tourism programs that can provide experiences for farming should be developed. 7) the establishment of birdwatching program in Saemtong migratory pit stop area will contribute to attracting domestic and international birdwatchers.
