Bokwan, burial toys of Joseon, are an important cultural costume source, but the use of bokwan as practical contents was low because of its characteristic. The aim of the study was to develop a historically investigated design of educational costume content and cultural product for a doll with traditional sources from the bokwan-doseol of the Oegyujanggak-uigwe, with a focus on Queen Myeongseong’s pink silk-ramie suboro[粉紅紵紗繡甫老]. Queen Myeongseong was a historically significant person regarding factional strife in the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century, and her suboro-doseol was suitable for application because of its clear pattern and shape. First, an educational content sample was developed. According to the historical research, the length of the suboro was about 37.38cm(8 chon) and the size of the peony pattern was 11.43×11.25cm, about 1/2 the size of a person`s costume. Chunpo was used as the material instead of old silk-ramie in the 17<SUP>th</SUP> century. Sappan wood dyeing and jicho dyeing were used to recreate the pink color of the suboro. The simple peony pattern of the suboro-doseol was analyzed by the author and reproducted by initiators of national embroidery craftman. Next, a ball-jointed doll’s suboro sample was designed as a cultural product. The doll’s suboro were modified in size, placing emphasis on its original characteristics. However, mechanic embroidery and machine sewing were used to make the doll’s suboro for a lower cost and mass production. The reconstructed suboro pattern can be printed and treated as educational content for museum visitors. Historic costume sources in Oegyujanggak-uigwe must be applied to a variety of practical costume content in a further study also.
