People in modern society has been increasingly alienated from their bodies due to the appearance of personal computers, electronic communication technology and other communicational devices. The higher modem technologies develop, the less need for body movements we have. The informational society of today, which took the place of the industrial society characterized with cars and electronic home appliances, is expected to develop at a higher and higher speed Along with and in fact, due to this process, our alienation from our bodies is going to be accelerated. In reckless candor, one might perhaps say that someday we will become purely spiritual beings minus the bodies. As a symptom of the brain taking over the body or the body turning obsolete, can be pointed out the remarkable increase of time people today spend on watching sports instead of directly participating in them. As more and more people derive vicarious satisfactions from watching sport games, they, some people worry, become blind or susceptible to sport games` ideological effect of hiding social problems or social contradictions. Or others might worry, sport games may serve to encourage the watchers or audience to escape from reality. This paper argues this phenomenon of our alienation from our bodies prevalent in modern society does in a way emphasize the paramount value of sport activities. In fact, wise use of leisure activities helps us to perform our duties more diligently. Therefore we can say that the less need we have for body movements, the more need we have for sport activities. One "drive" for engaging oneself in sport activities is the pleasure of the moment one achieve through his or her physical activities. When it is considered that it is an imperative far a modern man to have to face a countless number of people every day, in other words, that it is a modern man`s destiny to be "overdosed" with personal contacts, occasional social encounters and business meetings, immense is the value of sports as private activities that one can pursue, either alone or with close friends, within an area protected from the invasive society. Thus, whatever form this society may develop into in the future, it can be assured that people will not cease to need the valuable sport activities, especially when one finds himself in the worse whirlwind of information, highly-developed sciences and technologies.
