옹기문화는 우리의 식생활과 밀접한 관계를 맺고 전개되어온 전통문화로서 한때 소멸위기에 처하기도 했지만 90년대를 전후로 새롭게 주목받으면서 중요한 전통문화의 하나로 부각되었으며 국가무형문화재의 한분야로 지정되었다. 특히, 전라도 전통옹기는 타 지역과 차별화된 성형방식으로 정윤석 옹기장은 쳇바퀴타렴성형기법을 계승하는 전라도 유일의 국가무형문화재이다. 정윤석 옹기장은 칠량봉황옹기를 운영하고 있으며 공방구성원은 부인(이복비)과 정상균(장남, 전수장학생), 정연균(삼남, 이수자)으로 구성되어 있으며, 정윤석 옹기장을 중심으로 전통옹기의 재현 및 제작, 유통이 복합적으로 이루어지고 있다. 정윤석 옹기장의 옹기공방은 쳇바퀴타렴성형 방식이 계승됨과 동시에 현대사회의 다양한 기술이 융합된 생산방식의 변화와 생활패턴의 변화를 반영한 생산과 판매 등 전통의 계승과 함께 현실적인 문제를 극복하는 과정에서 현대사회의 변화에 대처하고 유기적으로 적응하려는 움직임이 시도되고 있다. 본 연구는 정윤석 옹기장을 중심으로 전통옹기공방에서 실제 이루어지는 생산공정이나 공방환경을 조사 · 연구함으로써 현장에서 실제로 이루어지는 전통옹기 계승현황을 파악하고 이를 통해 전통옹기의 계승을 위한 방향을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 또한 전통옹기와 현대의 기술 및 사고가 융합된 전통계승 현황을 연구를 통해 옹기전통을 계승하고 보존하는 기본 자료로 활용되기를 기대해본다.
Onggi(pottery) culture is a traditional culture that has been developed with a close relationship with our food life, which faced a crisis of extinction for some time, however it has become an important traditional culture, as it newly received attention around 1990s, and was designated as a national intangible cultural asset. Particularly, Jeollado traditional pottery is Jeollado’s sole national intangible cultural asset, which succeeds ChetbaquiTaryeomSeonghyung. (treadwheel riding moulding technique), differentiated from other regions. Particularly the traditional pottery in Jeollado area has a differentiated shaping type from other areas, and Master Jeong Yunseok is the only national intangible cultural property in jeollado area who has succeeded the shaping skill of the sieve rim taryeom. The master Jeong Yunseok manages the Chillyang Bongwhang Pottery, the members of the workshop are composed with his wife(Lee Bokbi), Jeong Sanggyun(the first son, an inheritance scholarship holder), and Jeong Yeongyun(the third son, an initiator), and by leadership of the master Jeong Yunseok, the reproduction, manufacture and sales of the traditional pottery are complexly being performed. In the master Jeong`s pottery workshop, the shaping type of the sieve rim taryeom is succeeded, and at same time, in the process of the succession of the tradition and overcoming the realistic matters like the change of manufacturing way, in which various contemporary skills are combined, and the production and sales, which reflects the change of life pattern, the attempt to respond to the change of the contemporary society and to systematically adapt to it are carried out. Centering on the pottery master Jeong Yunseok, the purpose of the study is to investigate the current state of the traditional pottery succession in the traditional pottery workshop by examining and researching the realistic manufacturing process or the workshop environment, and based on it, to suggest the direction for succession of the traditional pottery. The result of the study is as below. First, I could understand that the shortening or transformation of the pottery manufacturing process in changed environment is inevitable to form the environment of tradition success or boost the pottery business. Second, to keep the traditional pottery inheritance in contemporary society, I decided that securing the ground is needed for the existence of the traditional pottery culture through the modernization process. Third, I could understand there is the need that the cultural value of the pottery master, who succeeded the traditional technique, must be recognized by public and help them to flourish the pottery culture. And through the research about the current state of the tradition succession in which the traditional pottery and contemporary technique and thinking are combined, I hope this study could be used as a basic data to success and reserve the pottery tradition.
