This paper shows, through the analysis of historical and literary sources, some moments of the reciprocal cognitive process among people of ancient Eurasia. In particular, the article emphasizes the perception of nomadic cultures by sedentary civilizations (as the Greek civilization) and the image of China in the Roman Empire and that of the Roman Empire in China. In this regard we can see various and often contradictory attitudes: from the extreme idealization to repulsion, according to the circumstances and different historical periods. However, the article also intends to show how, beyond the stereotypes of collective imagination and the subjective considerations, many cultural patterns were able to migrate from the West to the East and vice versa, building the basis of today Eurasia’s cultural asset.
