This paper aimed at first to evaluate the achievement of economic transition in Central and Eastern Europe over the past ten years, and secondly to examine socioeconomic problems as negative effects generated from the marketization. From the perspectives of economic transition toward market economy, the Central and Eastern European states have succeeded to establish the market-centered economic system and to maintain high economic growth rate. However, a lot of socioeconomic problems have generated at the same time. Many people across the region have suffered sever reductions in their standard of living and have experienced acute poverty. The states in the region have faced with very serious social challenges. This paper emphasized that the Central and Eastern European states could be transferred to the bipolarized society if they do not deal with the socioeconomic problems by high policy priorities. For the establishing of the integrated society, the Central and Eastern European states should carry out economic transformation policies as well as widespread social stabilization policies.
