The derivation and meaning about the word“XueYin”in dictionaries were very confused and lacking evidence. In many viewpoints, “Coming from XueDou ChongXian” was the most important one. It seems correct today. The relationship between XueYin and XueDou ChongXian in interpretation system was very complicated. The word “XueYin” appeared firstly in the YueJiangZhengYin’s gatha named ZhengShengJingTou in Yuan Dynasty. This word appeared probably associated with XueDou ChongXian cleaning the toilet in Lingyin Temple, mainly because of the extreme praise to XueDou ChongXian in Chan master YueJiangZhengYin’s sayings. However, the relationship between the two identified from the beginning of ZhuXian FanXian. These views of the people in Yuan Dynasty directly influenced the Japanese monks，such as YiTang ZhouXin, WuZhu DaoZhong, BuZhuo, and so on. And then, gradually, spread so wide as to XueDou ChongXian eventually developed into a pioneer of the “JingTou tradition” at last. From the word “XueYin”, we could discovered the rise of XueDou ChongXian’s position in Yuan Dynasty and his influence in Japan, and also could recognize the universality and profundity of Zen communication between China and Japan.
