In this paper, an analytic model for the evaluation of the sleep model operation in the IEEE 802.16e is proposed. In order to consider the bursty and selfsimilar packet arrival patterns more practically, batch Markovian arrival process (BMAP) is adopted and useful performance measures such as energy consumption ratio (ECR) and average packet waiting time (PWT) are presented by modifying the multiple server vacation model assuming general service time distribution. Our analytic model provides a more general and practical guidance in determining the optimal parameters such as minimal sleep and maximal sleep window under real Internet traffic situations.
