Gujin zhu 古今注(Notes to Things Old and New) is a documentational biji 筆記text written by Cui Bao 崔豹in the Jin 晉Dynasty. It is composed of 3 volumes, 8 chapters and 188 articles. The contents of this book is focused on documentation and interpretation of various objects in daily life such as Yufu 輿服chariots and robes, Duyi 都邑local administration, Yinyue 音樂music, Niaoshou 鳥獸birds and beasts, Yuchong 魚蟲scaly and creeping animals, Caomu 草木herbs and plants, Zazhu 雜注miscellaneous notes and Wenda shiyi 問答釋義answering questions and explaining the meaning. Therefore, Guzin zhu is a very important documentational material to examine various objects before the Jin Dynasty more specifically and accurately.
Not only did Gujin zhu have a direct influence on the creation of the documentational texts such as Sushi yanyi 蘇氏演義in the Tang 唐Dynasty and Zhonghua gujin zhu 中華古今注in the Five Dynasties 五代, but also it was widely quoted in the Chinese traditional encyclopedia Leishu 類書such as Yiwen leiju 藝文類聚and Taiping yulan 太平御覽, and in the Chinese traditional pharmacological text such as Bencao gangmu 本草綱目. So its bibliographical value is very important.
Gujin zhu was also introduced to Korea in the Goryeo 高麗Dynasty and became a large reading of intellectuals until the Joseon 朝鮮Dynasty. In particular, it has been received the attention of scholars because of the specific records of the ancient song of Gongwuduhe 公無渡河in Korea.
