Report Errors
Urban mapping works have been developed for various urban spatial analyses based on urban design process. This research aims for understanding urban mapping process, which has became more complicated and obscure. Basic factors of urban mapping can be divided into two categories, mapping contents and mapping techniques, those factors were examined in related researches and mapping cases from typomorphology analysis. Under detail investigations of literature reviews and case studies, the mapping contents and techniques can be reclassified into five mapping contents(‘form’, ‘time’, ‘scale’, ‘data’, ‘flow’) and eight mapping techniques in a two step process(‘layering’, ‘comparison’, ‘abstraction’ in step one and ‘selection’, ‘distortion’, ‘combination’, ‘transformation’, ‘using text’, ‘using picture’ in step two). These reclassified elements are verified through analysis of actual cases of urban mapping, which supports to find various possibilities of using mapping contents and techniques in urban mapping works.
