The aim of this study is to compare the similarities and differences in the expression of anger as an emotion between English and Chinese. This paper examines the metaphorical linguistic expressions and conceptual metaphors so as to build a relationship between language and concept. In order to achieve this purpose, this study employs a comprehensive approach combining quantitative and qualitative analysis. It is shown that (ⅰ) the differences are more significant than the similarities between the two languages, which is reflected in the performance of words and collocations at the level of language on one hand, and in the selection of source domains, the manners of linguistic conduct, the productivity of conceptual metaphors, and the models of conceptualization at the level of concept on the other hand; (ⅱ) language to some extent restrictively influences concept, and concept places limits on the performance of language.
