The present study was conducted to find out proper ways of protecting the youth in the growing stage from falling victim of scoliosis by investigating the effects of living and exercise habits on scoliosis of middle school girls in the growing stage and, by thus, to present basic data to help the youth form correct physical shape and have good health in the future. For this purpose, 572 girls were selected from middle schools of S city in Chungnam Province, given radiological tests and asked to reply to the questionnaires distributed. The findings of the survey may be summed up as follows: 1. The investigation of the relationship between living habits and scoliosis revealed no significant difference at the level p>.05 among the types of bedtime(χ2(df=4)=1.902), healthy living style(χ2(df=4)=2.435), and bedroom structure( χ2(df=1)=.815). 2. From the review into the relationship between sleeping hours as a living style and scoliosis, a significant difference of χ2(df=3)=13.449 was found at the level p<.01. 3. The relationship between the length of using bed as a living style and scoliosis was shown to have a significant difference with χ2(df=4)=15.042 at the level p<.05). 4. No significant difference was detected from the survey of the relationship between exercise habits and scoliosis with exercise preference(χ2(df=4)=1.331), behavior of exercise participation(χ2(df=4)=1.415), grade of weekly participation in exercise(χ2(df=4)=.753), daily practicing hours of participated exercise(χ2(df=4)=.753) and intensity of the participated exercise(χ2(df=4)=.745) at the level of p>.05.
