This study was designed to examine the effects of 12 weeks of remedial exercise program on Cobb's angle, flexibility, and balance in scoliosis patients. Twelve scoliosis patients, whose Cobb's angle was higher than 10˚, volunteered to participate in the study as subjects. They went through a 12-week remedial exercise program, composed of SET, TOGU, and Swissball, 40 min/session and three sessions/week Cobb's angle of thoracic region and lumber region, sit-and-reach, trunk extension backward, and one leg standing with eye closed were measured and compared before and after the 12-week exercise program. Main results obtained in the present study were as follows: 1) Cobb's angle of thoracic region and lumber region decreased significantly (p<.001) after the exercise program. 2) Sit-and-reach and trunk extension backward increased significantly (p<.001) after the exercise program. 3) One leg standing with eye closed increased significantly (p<.001) after the exercise program It was concluded that scoliosis angle was reduced and flexibility as well as balance were improved by 12 weeks of remedial exercise program in scoliosis patients, indicating that the remedial exercise program would be very effective for preventing and treating scoliosis.
