The purpose of the study is to find out if the variability of the parents or the young children themselves affects the happiness of the young children, and to determine the correlation between the happiness of the young children and that of the parents. The study surveyed 310 four to five year-old children and the 310 parents of the children, total of 620, from eight child care centers in Seoul and four child care centers in different places in Korea on the matter of happiness. The results are as follows:
First, the children of age four to five were feeling similar levels of happiness from the sub-categories of characteristics of self, family environment, ability, and social skills, even though happiness about the characteristics of self was higher. Also, the happiness regarding the sub-categories mentioned did not vary by gender or age of the children.
Second, the level of the happiness of the children varied from the fathers' education. Also, the levels of the children's happiness under certain sub-categories varied from the mothers' education, monthly family income, and the residency.
Third, the general happiness of the children and that of the parents had a positive correlation. Also, the level of happiness of the children and that of the parents measured under the diverse sub-categories of happiness had positive correlation.
