The text contains its textures which means that it was constructed with its overall structure or literary scheme according to the authorial design, demanding the readers to pay proper attention to the literary clues or patterns such as parallel features. Matthew 24-25 shows certain parallel phenomena within certain paragraphs, for example, chiastic features in 24: 23-26, 36-41, and 42-44; contrastive figures in 24:40-41, 45-51, 25:1-13, 25:14-30, and 25:31-46, all of which demonstrate the Matthean styles or ways of writing, promoting the ideas based on the pairing system.
From this observation on the stylistic construction of Matthew, we may assume that the Olivet Discourse (Matthew 24-25) was composed of its own macro-systematic structure. By ways of inducing not a few literary clues of parallels within the Discourse, we may conclude that 24:1-35 has its chiastic structure (ABB′A′), while 24:36-25: 30 shows the parallel one (ABA′B′). In a sense, even the last section 25:31-46 produces a chiastic phenomenon: ABB′A′. As a whole, Matthew 24-25 may provide as an overall structure a macrochiasm, A (24:1-35) – X (24:36-25: 30) – A′ (25:31-46).
